Bonna L. Basler, 89, of Guttenberg, Iowa, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on June 4, 1931, in Garnavillo, the daughter of Lawrence and Harriet Schumacher. Bonna grew up in Guttenberg, where she graduated from the Guttenberg High School. On June 28, 1951, Bonna was united in marriage with James D. Basler at the College Chapel in Cedar Falls. This union blessed the couple with three daughters. Bonna taught elementary school in Coggon for several years, and later did bookkeeping for the John Deer Implement in Coggon. She enjoyed music, golfing, fishing, cooking and sewing. She played piano and organ for the Peace Lutheran church in Ryan for many years, and then the St. Paul Lutheran church in Guttenberg. She was also a pianist for her 50 years in Eastern Star.
Bonna entered heaven ahead of her three daughters, Susan (David) Neustel, Cindy (Rick) Owens and Jaimie (David) Fall; six grandchildren, Caleb, Carson, Campbell and Casey Fall, LeAnn Holsapple and Brent Neustel; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James, in 2000; brother, Noel Schumacher; and sister-in-law, Ila Mae Schumacher; and grandson, Chancellor Fall.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, Iowa. There will be a private family graveside service.
