Bonar, Arline Belle
Arline Belle Bonar, 78, of Crestview Acres, Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Post 298 in Marion.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Righter (Lance), Leonard Bonar Jr., Elizabeth Toker (Ahmet), Ted Bonar (Traci), Martha Vandamme (Michael) and Richard Bonar (Charlotte); a brother, Fred Paradies (Evelyn); a sister, Barbara King (Don); grandchildren, Elaine Bailey (Kevin), Kim Righter, Yeliz and Selin Toker, Andrew and Camille Bonar, Michelle Vandamme and Jonathan Bonar; and great-grandchildren, Reese and Paige Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodora and Fred Paradies; and her husband, Leonard Stanley Bonar.
Arline Belle Bonar, nee Paradies, was born on August 1, 1932, to Theodora and Fred Paradies in Cagayan Philippines. Arline and her family moved to the United States, during the Japanese Invasion of the Philippines in June 1941. They moved to Madison, Wis., and eventually settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in November 1944.
Arline graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1950. Upon graduation, she joined the United States Air Force, where she was an Airman First Class. She was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, where she met her future husband of 35 years, Leonard Stanley Bonar.
Arline graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1972 with a Baccalaureate of Arts in History. She worked for the Cedar Rapids School District in the Transportation Department for 13 years.
Arline was a member of the American Veterans. She loved her country, her family and had a passion for reading and music. We will miss her dearly.
Flowers can be sent to The American Legion Post 298 in Marion. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Arline's name to the Mount Mercy Scholarship Fund at Mount Mercy University, Cedar Rapids.
The family would like to extend a heart filled thank you to the staff at Crestview Acres Nursing Home and to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
