Bohling, Darlene E.
Darlene E. Bohling, 78, of Center Point, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Brenda Ehret. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the funeral home and one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Stuart (Angie) Bohling of Cedar Rapids; stepsons, Randy (Louise) Bohling of Parma, Idaho, and Russell (Jo) Bohling of Nampa, Idaho; sisters, Jean Oxley of Cedar Rapids and Pat Andersen of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Doris Liabo of Naples, Fla.; and three stepgrandchildren.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; stepgranddaughter, Michelle Bohling; brother, Leslie Liabo; and brothers-in-law, Myron Oxley and Delmar Andersen.
Born Sept. 11, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Darlene was the daughter of Carl and Edna (Smiley) Liabo. She graduated from Center Point High School in 1950 and Upper Iowa College, with a B.A. degree in education in 1964. She was an elementary schoolteacher in Ackley and Anamosa, Iowa, before teaching in Twin Falls, Idaho, around 1968. In 1969, she married Bernie Bohling and the couple moved back to Iowa before divorcing in 1972. In 1972, she began her career as a rural postal carrier in Center Point until retiring in 1994.
She was a member of the National Solo Parents and Singles Association, where she held many offices both locally and nationally, Eastern Star, Center Point Historical Society and the Legion Auxiliary. Darlene enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeye basketball teams.
