Boesenberg, Paul
On Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, Paul Boesenberg entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for eternity, after a short bout with cancer at the age of 86. Paul's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Maranatha Bible Church, 526 Third Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Aaron Telecky. Paul's viewing and visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Surviving Paul are his five sons, Kenneth (Janice Venteicher) of Manchester and children, James and Kendra, Richard (LaVon Lehrman) Boesenberg of Martelle, David (J.P. Parkhurst) Boesenberg of Alburnett and children, Brandon, Amy, Kyle, Tyler and two stepchildren, Alex and Kelsey, Larry (Cathy Tenley) Boesenberg of Brooklyn, and their children, Bradley, Stacy and Jamie, and Dean (Cathy Rockzien) Boesenberg of Stanwood, and their children, Rhonda and Nichole.
Paul is also survived by two brothers, Clarence (Ruby Williams) and James (Joyce Meade) Boesenberg, all of Cedar Rapids; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
---- Preceding Paul in death were his parents; wife, Dorothy who died Feb. 5, 2008; son, Eugene who died in infancy; and brothers, Henry and Donald.
---- Paul was born June 19, 1924, in Webster, Iowa, the son of Henry and Catherine Boesenberg. Paul attended a one-room country school through eighth grade and graduated from Marion High School in 1942. He married Dorothy Demory on June 24, 1946 at the Church of the Brethren, Cedar Rapids.
---- Paul served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on board the destroyer, USS Stoddard, (DD566) in the South Pacific and the Aleutian Islands, earning three battle stars. After returning from the Navy, he took up farming, working as a farm hand and then farmed for himself. He retired from farming in 1995, moved to Anamosa, and worked at the "Super Wash," now known as "Main Street Car Wash" in Anamosa for 15 years. In October 1961, Paul accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and will now spend eternity in heaven. He along with his wife, Dorothy taught fourth grade Sunday school for 20 years, he also served as an elder for 10 years and was active on many other committees. His greatest joy was to share his faith in Jesus.
Paul and his wife traveled to all 48 states, Nova Scotia, Alaska and Canada. They often took another couple with them. He enjoyed visiting friends, playing cards and golfing. He thoroughly enjoyed farming.
