Boehmke, Robert John
Robert John Boehmke, 80, of Walford, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford, by Pastor David Mosher. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the church and also one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; brother, Bill (Carolyn) Boehmke of Big Bear, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Brecht of Blairstown and Arlene Titler of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Robin; brothers, Walter and Lynold; and sisters, Olive and Wilma.
Bob was born Oct. 27, 1931, the son of Frederick and Anna (Kramer) Boehmke, in Keystone, Iowa. A graduate from Keystone High School in 1949, he served in the United States Navy as a corpsman during the Korean conflict on the U.S.S. Havens from 1950-1954. On Feb. 14, 1959, Bob was united in marriage to Ruby Whiting in the Knox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of the American Legion Fairfax Post 0572.
Bob enjoyed life playing baseball, softball, bowling, fishing and then starting garden plants for a large garden. He retired from Cedar Rapids Square D as a tool and diemaker, retiring after 35 1/2 years in May 1991. As an avid Hawkeye fan, Bob supported the Iowa Hawkeyes through the I-Club for 55 years and attended many football games.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, Fairfax Fire Department, or Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford, in memory of Bob.
