Bockenstedt, JoAnn D.
JoAnn D. Bockenstedt, 79, of Manchester, formerly of Greeley, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Marietta's Place in Manchester. Mass of Resurrection: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Celebrant: The Rev. John Flaherty. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, with a 4 p.m. Scripture service, and also one hour before services Saturday at the church. Interment: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Greeley.
She was born Sept. 17, 1932, in rural Manchester, the daughter of Francis and Berniece (Nagel) Hockaday. JoAnn graduated from Manchester High School in 1950. JoAnn was united in marriage to Daniel Bockenstedt on Feb. 20, 1954, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Greeley. Together they farmed in the Greeley area and raised six children.
JoAnn was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she was a member of St. Anne's Study Club. Most recently she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester. She was also a member of the Manchester Legion Auxiliary, Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
JoAnn enjoyed gardening and was known for her beautiful flower beds. She also enjoyed golfing, traveling, playing cards, volunteering, and reading.
She will be remembered as one who enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Cindy (Dallas) Deike of Marshalltown, Dick (Kim) Bockenstedt of Greeley, Patty (Terry) Rauch of Manchester, Kathy (Dave) Jasper of Cedar Rapids and Sara (Jeff) Janes of Ankeny; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Susan Hockaday of Dubuque.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Berniece Hockaday; her husband, Daniel; one son, James; a grandson, Daniel Jasper; and one brother, Richard Hockaday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to RMC Hospice of Comfort.
