Bob Downs, 68, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2014, in his home. Services: 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Randy Kasch. Family will greet friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky; three sons, Jeff (Krista) Downs, Shawn (Kathy) Reicherts and Brad Reicherts; three daughters, Tanya (Duane) Buchtela, Cortney (Jeff) Dierks and Lisa (Brett) Murdoch; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.
Bob was born Aug. 6, 1945, in Vinton, Iowa, son of Harley "Bud" and Velma (Williams) Downs.
Bob was an amazing and loving man, teacher, husband and father who enjoyed working at the Edgewood Hardware Store and touched so many lives and hearts.
He was a member of the Vinton Fire Department, serving as captain, assistant chief, chief and training officer for 29 years. On July 20, 1991, he married Vicky Follette.
