Blount, Richard 'Dick'
Richard “Dick” Blount, 61, of Independence, died Friday morning, March 11, 2011, at his home with his family at his side. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence.
Dick was born April 30, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of William E. and Mary L. (Lopota) Blount. He was a 1967 graduate of the Independence High School, and was married to Darlene M. Bagby on Oct. 22, 1971. Richard owned and operated Blount Excavating in Independence for 40 years, and served on the Independence Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Darlene; a daughter, Roni (Rick) Hilby, Manchester; four grandchildren, Joshua, Hailey, Olivia and Ryan Hilby; his mother, Mary Blount of Independence; two sisters, Kathleen (Ismail) Reyna, Cedar Park, Texas, and Claudia (John) Beecher, Dubuque; and a brother, Duane (Barbara) Blount, Walker.
He was preceded in death by his father, William in 2009.
