Bliss, Maxine 'Cookie'

Maxine “Cookie” Bliss, 70, of Marion, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, at her home from mesothelioma. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

The following was written in her own words:

Maxine was born Sept. 13, 1939, the daughter of Henry and Florence (Vette) Uthoff of Norway. She attended Norway High School and married Donald Duane Bliss on Nov. 24, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Dean (Julie) Bliss of Cedar Rapids, Sandi (Bill) Orr of Texas and Dan (Dawn) Bliss, Sue Bliss and Sara (Kirk) Schobert, all of Marion; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her extended family, Scott (Arlene) Walters and Tina Worley; her brother, David (Fran) Uthoff; five sisters, Dolores Rawson, Arlene Wear, Berti Rhinehart, Marjorie Beatty and Virginia Roths; her brother- in-law, Harold Wittenburg; and her sister-in-law, Eleanor Uthoff.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, David; her granddaughter, Rowen Tharrington; a sister, Dorothy Wittenburg; a brother, Walter Uthoff; and a brother-in-law, Bill Rawson.

Per Maxine's wishes, she will be cremated. Special thanks to Bill Rawson for the interment box.
