Floyd Blankenship, 69, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wapsi Country Club. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at . Following the committal service at the cemetery a luncheon will be served at Wapsi Country Club.

Surviving are his fiance, Tammy; five children, Matt (Jen) Warner-Blankenship, Des Moines, Michael (Josie) Blankenship, Rochester, N.Y., Amanda (Dan) Meyer, Marion, and Eric (Samantha) Luchtenburg and Brad Luchtenburg, both of Anamosa; three grandchildren, Madison, Gracie, and Hayden Meyer; and a sister, Gerri (Tom) Jones, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irene; and a brother, Wayne; and his lab, Mollie.

Floyd Langley Blankenship was born Oct. 11, 1943, in East Chicago, Ind. He was the son of Langley and Gladys Jones Blankenship. Floyd grew up in Hammond, Ind., where he graduated from high school. He completed his education at Purdue University with a degree in agronomy. He started his 30-year career with ASGROW Seed in Indiana, later transferring to the seed corn operation in Anamosa. Floyd worked as a consultant in the development of Roundup Ready Corn and traveled to Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Puerto Rico consulting as well.

Floyd had served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a member of Jones County Ducks Unlimited, the Anamosa Rotary Club, and was a member and past president of both the Issac Walton League and Wapsi Country Club.
