Blanchard, Warren A.
Warren A. Blanchard, 86, of 2448 Illinois St. SW, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two sons, Don (Dorothy) of Palisades, Colo., and Dean (Sandy) of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Dr. Janet Blanchard of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one sister, Barbara Lossez of Westfield, Mass. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Nathan, Aaron, Mark, Alexandra and Jacob; and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Marion and Thelma.
Warren was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Somerville, Mass., the son of Abijah and Josephine Zeman Blanchard. He graduated from Tufts College in Medford, Mass., and married Virginia J. Cotter there on April 7, 1947. Warren was a self-employed accountant and tax consultant for many years, retiring in 2007.
He was a member of First Christian Church, National Association of Tax Preparers, VFW Post 788 and the American Legion. Warren served in the Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier, Princeton, which was sunk by the Japanese. He was later rescued and transferred to Hawaii to recover from injuries suffered in the battle.
Warren enjoyed golf and the time spent with his beloved family.
He was a kind and wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to thank the staff at Northbrook Manor for the loving care given to Warren.
