Blakely, Miriam
Miriam Blakely, 95, of Iowa City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Oaknoll.
Miriam was born in Oakland, Iowa, on March 9, 1916, the daughter of the Rev. Frank and Mamie Blakely. She attended Iowa State and obtained her BA in teaching. After completion of her BA, Miriam taught social studies and later attended The University of Wisconsin, where she received her Masters in 1947. She moved to Clinton, where she spent most of her 40 years there as a high school counselor.
She was active in the Methodist church, played piano, a world wide traveler, accomplished seamstress and was a kind and loving friend to all who knew her.
Miriam is survived by her two nieces, Susan (James) VanRavenswaay of Sturgis, Mich., and Mary Pero of Comstock Park, Mich.; two great nephews; Aaron and Ryan; a great-niece, Faye; and a great-great-niece, Kerstin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jean Mether.
