Blair, George 'Sid'
George “Sid” Blair, 78, of Marion, died Saturday Oct. 8, 2011, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Private inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial services will be held in the spring of 2012. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Fran L. Blair; two daughters, Nancy Blair (Phil) Craver of Richardson, Texas, and Susan R. (Jerry) Rundall of Anamosa; five grandchildren, Ryan Scott Craver, Jillian Marie (Jasen) Smith, both of Texas, David Carl (Heather) Rundall of Anamosa, Adam Jon (Tasha) Rundall of Central City, and Aaron Joseph (Maribel) Rundall of Texas; and four great-grandchildren; Savannah, Rachel, Arianna and Ellie.
His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
Sid was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Harold Victor and Eulah Tingley Blair. He married Frances L. Hillers on August 23, 1953 in Delaware, Iowa. Sid (along with his wife, Fran) was owner and operator of the The Town Crier and The Journal Eureka in Anamosa for 27 years. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, and was a very proud and patriotic American. Sid's favorite pastime in life was his family and spending time with them. Family gatherings were always filled with plenty of fun and games, laughter, music and food. He was also known as “Tuba Sid,” and loved to play his tuba wherever and whenever he had the opportunity, delighting both his family and friends.
