Billy Ray Herwig, 62, of Monticello, Iowa, died Friday, May 20, 2016, at his home surrounded by family.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 27, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, officiated by Certified Celebrant Amy Hart. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service in the chapel stateroom. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bill was born Sept. 1, 1953, in West Union, Iowa, to Adeline (Martwig) and Ray Herwig Jr. After earning his certification, Bill made his career as a commercial printer. He worked for Fisher Printing in Hiawatha for 25 years and then at Quebecor from 2003 until 2012. Bill was united in marriage to Cathy (Warriner) Byron on June 28, 2008, in Monticello.
He was a consummate outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer. He loved riding his Yamaha motorcycle and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy; son, Neal (Emily) of Norman, Okla.; stepdaughter, Katelyn (Harold) Dalton of Joliet, Ill.; grandchildren, Harold, Kobe and Mariah, all of Joliet, Ill.; brother, Henry (Sandie) Herwig of Coralville; sisters, Holly (John) Becker and Shally (Dick) Garin, both of Cedar Rapids; nieces, Kelly and DeeDee; nephews, Cullin, Kyle and AJ; and many close friends, especially those in his Coggon hunting group.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
