Bill Burton Schwartz was born Aug. 14, 1951, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Higgins) Schwartz. Bill loved spending time with his family and visiting relatives. He was fond of playing cards, working on math problems, singing and eating pie. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and His Too Class. Bill lived at Systems Group Home in Williamsburg and enjoyed his friends, staff and activities there. He also participated in work and social events at REA (Rural Employment Alternatives) in Conroy. Bill passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 65 years.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Schwartz of Williamsburg; four siblings, Brock (Michelle) Schwartz of Indian Hills, Colo., Beth Goudge of Maryville, Mo., Jane Jones of Overland Park, Kan., and Mark (Jennifer) Schwartz of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and seven nephews and nieces plus eight great-nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2014 and a brother-in-law, John Jones.
Special thanks to Mary Pat Koehler, Humphrey Mwangi and all the staff at Systems and REA who have shared their love and taken such good care of Bill.
Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Tom Ogilvie will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the church. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Buena Vista Lutheran Cemetery near Calamus.
A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Systems Unlimited in Williamsburg or Rural Employment Alternatives (REA) in Conroy.
