Beverly Reinertson, 85, died peacefully in her sleep at home after an extended illness on March 6, 2015. She was an inspiration to her family in the way she handled her illness with such grace and dignity. Visitation will be at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids on Monday, March 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10. Beverly was born on a farm one mile south of Roland, Iowa, to Ivan and Amy Sampson. She attended Roland Consolidated schools K-12. There she was active in basketball, chorus, cheerleading and band, where she played the saxophone winning many regional and state contests. She graduated in 1947 and began working for Ruben H. Donnelly as an administrative assistant. She married the love her life, James Reinertson, in June 1948.
The family moved to Detroit, Mich., for five years while James was employed at Parke Davis Drug Co. In 1953, they moved to Iowa City, where Bev was employed at University of Iowa College of Medicine, where she was executive assistant to five physicians at the Department of Preventative Medicine. Bev was best known there for her speed and accuracy in her typing.
After Jim completed medical school and residency, they moved to Cedar Rapids. Bev was active in PEO, where she just received her 50-year pin. She also was involved in Garden Club and was chairperson of the Cedar Rapids Rose Society.
She was very active in her church and taught Sunday school for many years.
Beverly most loved spending time with family, entertaining friends and most especially her time with Jim and their many interests.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Amy Sampson; a brother, Stanley; and grandson, Erik.
She is survived by her husband, James; son, Dr. Mark Reinertson (Karen) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Marilee Reinertson Torres of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to go to Camp Courageous, St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids or a charity of your choice.
