Beverly Kay Gillaspie was born September 22, 1945, in Davis County, Iowa the daughter of Raymond Charles & Delpha LaVelma (Horn) Spurgeon. She graduated from Davis County High School in 1963.
Beverly was united in marriage to John Earl Gillaspie in Davis County, Iowa on April 27, 1963. Over the years, she lived in Davis County, Iowa; Kirksville, Missouri; Fremont, Iowa; and Vermillion, South Dakota before residing in Williamsburg, Iowa in 1970. In 1975, she began working at Williamsburg High School as the laundry lady. She retired in 2010. Beverly was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, cooking, babysitting her grand dogs, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed her monthly lunch bunch gatherings with her high school classmates and coffee with her Methodist Church ladies. Beverly died on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the University of Iowa Medical Center Downtown in Iowa City at the age of 79 years.
She is survived by her husband John of Williamsburg; a daughter Kimberly Sue Cox of North English; a son Charles Grover (Ann) Gillaspie of Marion; five grandchildren Gabriel (Dana) Cox of Cedar Rapids, Gideon (Lindsay) Cox of North Liberty, Grayson Cox of St. Louis, Hunter Gillaspie of Chicago, and Alex Gillaspie of Chicago; two great granddaughters Kaelyn Cox and Emery Cox; a brother Ronald Spurgeon of Wilton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded by her parents; brothers Verlin Spurgeon, Lowell Spurgeon, and James Spurgeon; sisters Lois McCormick and Roma Spurgeon; and a son-in-law Johnny Ray Cox.
The family would like to thank the staff at the University of Iowa Medical Center Downtown in Iowa City for their kindness and compassion.
No services will be held at this time. Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg is caring for Beverly and her family. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
