Beverly Joy Brecht, 89, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at The Views in Marion. A parish vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. The family will greet friends following the vigil service until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Central City. Burial will take place at Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Beverly was born on Nov. 13, 1931, the daughter of Elmer and Charlene (Goodman) Simmons. She graduated from Marengo High School. On Oct. 2, 1950, in Marengo, Iowa, Beverly was united in marriage to Cletus Brecht whom she farmed with for over 60 years. Cletus preceded her in death in 2012. She was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church and the parish's Ladies Guild. Beverly was also a member of the Pleasant Valley Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed crafting and being an avid Hawkeyes sports fan.
Beverly treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she always had cookies and M&M's for them and others who stopped by. She was known for her famous homemade chicken and noodles. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her four sons, Doug (Shirley) Brecht of Marion, Steve (Cheryl) Brecht of Center Point, Phil (Judy) Brecht of Central City and Pete (Diane) Brecht of Central City; one daughter, Laurie Brecht of Mooresville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sheryl (Tom) Sandersfeld of Cedar Rapids and Pam (David) Kircher of Center Point and Patsy Smith of California; and one brother, Mike (Linda) Simmons of Lakeville, Minn.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cletus Brecht; two one sister, Sherma Oliphant; and grandson, Nick Brecht. Memorials in Beverly's memory may be directed to the St. Stephen Parish Ladies Guild. Please share a memory of Beverly at www.murdochfuneralhome.com under obituaries.
