Beverly "Bev" Jean Pearson, 89, passed away in her home in Cedar Rapids surrounded by family, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, following an illness.
Bev was born to Rose Janet (Dutro) Compton and David Dwight Compton on Jan. 12, 1934, in Clear Lake, Iowa. She married James "Jim" Walter Pearson Jr. on Jan. 20, 1952, in Ames, Iowa. Together, they had five children, Dennis "Denny" Pearson, Donald "Don" (Linda) Pearson, William "Bill" (Lissa) Pearson, Kimberley Kay "Kim" Pearson, and Jeffrey "Jeff" (Shelly) Pearson. Her family is comforted in this time knowing she has been reunited with her husband Jim, sons Denny and Don, siblings Dorothy "Dode," Lorene "Larry," Jack, and Robert "Bob," her parents, and many other loved ones who preceded her in passing.
Bev worked in various positions at Hy-Vee on Johnson Avenue in Cedar Rapids over several decades before retiring at the age of 80. Many people in town remember her smiling face from her time as a cashier.
The most important thing in Bev's life was her family. The amount of love she held for them was palpable, and everyone who knew Bev loved her as well. She was a force to be reckoned with and kept everyone in her life on their toes with her witty remarks and willingness to try just about anything her family asked her to. Bev spent her days rolling the Yahtzee dice and playing Solitaire, and before her health declined, was always up for a trip to the casino.
Bev is survived by her sister Karen Popelka, daughter Kim, sons Bill (Lissa) and Jeff (Shelly), grandchildren Corey Pearson, Nikki Pearson, Eric Pearson, Chelsea (Jason) Preston, Taylor Pearson, Lyndsey Wright, Mitch Melheim, Drew Pearson, Zach (Jessie) Nielsen, Blake Nielsen and Sydney Nielson, and great-grandchildren Nathan and Hannah Pearson, Rex, Nash and Cruz Preston, Max, Kooper, Jett and Bekker Wright, and Kaiden Nielsen.
A visitation for Bev will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023. Funeral services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories the following morning, Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations to help the family cover end of life expenses are greatly appreciated and can be made via Venmo (@bevpearsonmemorialfund).
