Beverly Jean (Abernathy) Daws, 90, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at the Garden of Eternal Love in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Beverly was born on April 25, 1933, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Edith (Cue) Abernathy. She graduated from Marion High School in Marion. On April 12, 1951, Beverly was united in marriage to Charles Daws Jr. in Marion, Iowa. Beverly was employed by the City of Hiawatha as City Clerk for 17 years and retired from the City of Hiawatha – Water Department after 22 years. She was a member of Hope United Church of Christ in Hiawatha and the VFW Auxiliary Post 788.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Doreen (Warren) McKenna of Kalona, Patricia (David) Yossi of Cedar Rapids, Lynn Ennis of Cedar Rapids, Julia Daws of Alaska, and Jeffrey Daws of Cedar Rapids; seven grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; siblings, Corwin and Aaron; son-in-law, Brian Ennis; and her special sister-in-law, Helen.
The family would like to thank all the staff of The Views of Marion and St. Luke’s Comfort Care for their extra hands and hearts.
In lieu of flowers, direct memorials to the family and they will donate to the Hiawatha Public Library.
