Beverly Jane (Walk) Hutchcroft, 84, was born July 30, 1933, to Norman Oliver and Othene Huber Walk in South English, Iowa. Bev passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at the Green Hills Health Center at Ames, where she had been for several months. She attended grade and high school at South English, graduating as valedictorian in 1950 from Kinross High School. She was baptized in the South English Methodist Church and took part in school, church and community activities, including the 4-H Club.
Bev attended Iowa State College (now University), earning a B.S. degree in dietetics in 1954. She was elected into Omicron Nu honorary academic society. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi social sorority.
Bev married Theodore (Ted) Hutchcroft on June 14, 1953, at South English. Three months later he was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving a year in Germany, where their daughter, Jayne, was born in Frankfurt/Main.
In subsequent years, the family lived in Des Moines; Oberursal/Taunus, Germany; Falls Church, Va.; San Jose, Costa Rica; Ames, Iowa; Dhaka, Bangladesh; and Morrilton, Ark. Their daughters, Jill and Julia, were born in Arlington, Va. After 27 years residing on Petit Jean Mountain, Ark., Bev and Ted moved to the Green Hills Retirement Community in June 2013.
Wherever they lived, Bev provided a loving home that was a part of their community. She provided leadership in their churches, extension homemakers clubs, and in community service.
Bev is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ted; by daughters, Jayne Christine of San Jose, Costa Rica, Jill Elizabeth of West Point, Ind., and Julia Ann and Robert Adolph of Byron, Ill.; her brother, Fred Walk and wife, Carole Lee, of East Wenatchee, Wash.; nieces and nephews, Deborah Walk, Laura and John Krippaehane and C.J., Rick and Kara Walk and Olivia and Charlotte of Olympia, Wash., and Jonathan and Addie Morrison and Sarah, Jacob, Gillian and Taylor Morrison of Parkland, Fla.; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Morrison of Rock Island, Ill., and Nancy and David Cox of Las Cruces, N.M. She was predeceased by her parents.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Green Hills Retirement Community main dining room. Burial of cremains will be during the summer at the Kossuth Cemetery at Mediapolis, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are encouraged to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/greateriowa/ ), or to The Safe Place (www.thesafeplacearkansas.com), a women's and children's shelter Bev actively supported in Morrilton, Ark.
