BEVERLEE JEAN YANDA TATE
Cedar Rapids
BeverLee Jean Yanda Tate, 85, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2022, at Westridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids.
Born in Topeka, Kan., on Aug. 25,1936, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Violette Yanda, both of Cedar Rapids. BeverLee was married to Wayne Tate in 1956 and later divorced.
She is survived by her oldest daughter, Sue Tate Williams and husband Al of Henderson, Nev.; and her daughter, Sharon Thomsen of Arizona; son, Scott, of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Steven, in November 1985; grandson, Zac Thomsen, in April 2016; and daughter, Sandy, in November 2021.
She had so many special lifetime friends, including Sharyl and Ken Achilles and Marsha and Franklin Hendrickson. They were steadfast, supportive friends who loved her unconditionally and each have our profound appreciation and deepest thanks.
Bev graduated from Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Ill. and was a long time member of First Church of the Nazarene. She was gifted musically playing marimba, piano, organ, saxophone and clarinet as well as her voice. She loved singing at her church early on and in her later years, she was heard by countless number of people singing her heart out at places she called home. Despite advanced dementia, she never forgot a word of her favorite hymns and songs which carried her throughout her life nor any one of her friends and family members.
Bev had an enormous heart of love and generosity towards everyone, especially family and friends alike. She battled mental disease most of her life with yet never gave up, despite many overwhelming circumstances she suffered through. Her most treasured moments were with her children whom she devoted her life to and with her grandchildren. The later years were her most joyful ones filled with long phone chats, visits with friends and family and Misty, her beloved dog.
Westridge Care Center was her home until she passed and they looked after her like she was family. On behalf of our entire family, we humbly give our heartfelt thanks to Westridge as well as all the caregivers who loved and cared for our mother. Luz Brewster from Home Instead, was her treasured caregiver and friend for years and we are so grateful for her. A very special thank you to those who accompanied her on many outings that she so cherished. May God richly bless each of you. Until we see you again one day Mom, we know you're certainly now singing with a host of angels!
