Beuter, Darleen T. Johnson
Private graveside services for Darleen T. Johnson Beuter, 77, of Iowa City, formerly of Tipton, who died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Memory Gardens, Iowa City. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Darleen Johnson Beuter, daughter of Willard H. and Lena R. McLaughlin Johnson, was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated from Cosgrove Consolidated High School as salutatorian and later from Kirkwood Community College. Darleen worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Johnson County for four years. She later worked as a secretary at the University of Iowa Broadcasting Services for almost 16 years, retiring in 1996.
Darleen enjoyed traveling with an emphasis on history and architecture. She visited Greece and Turkey and several Greek Islands. Touring Alaska in depth was a highlight for her. Darleen liked to read, work crossword puzzles, attend concerts and discover new restaurants. She enjoyed sports and followed the racing careers of her sons, Mike and Gary. Darleen celebrated her 50th birthday by flying in a hot-air balloon.
Darleen is survived by her daughter, Karen Beuter Ficken of Tyler, Texas; sons, Mike (Michelle) Beuter and Gary (Maletta) Beuter, all of Tipton; brothers, Ron Johnson and Marvin Johnson, both of Iowa City; grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Schnoebelen, Shannon (Tim) Krauss, Brianne Beuter, Kathleen Ficken, Mallory Ficken, Alicia (Barry) Cooling, Amanda (Chris) Koch, Amy (Nolan) Mente and Ashley (Matt Shields) McCormick; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Beuter; and brother, Dwayne Johnson.
