Beulah F. Hooton, 89, longtime resident of the Iowa City area, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at the Iowa City Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery, rural southwest Johnson County.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Beulah's memory.

Beulah F. James was born Oct. 9, 1924, in South Sioux City, Neb., the daughter of William H. and Edith (Duckson) James. She attended schools in South Sioux City, graduating with the class of 1942. She then went on to attend Northwest Bible College in Seattle. On Nov. 12, 1948, she married Charles Paul Hooton Sr. in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple lived south of Iowa City for many years where they raised their seven children.
She was active in her church, First Assembly of God, as Sunday school secretary and teaching Sunday school, including the college level Berean Class.
Her family includes her children, Charles Paul Hooton Jr. (Rebecca), Donald Hooton (Donna), Rodney Hooton (Nancy), Duane Hooton (Yue), John Hooton (Candace), Joy Wallace (Mike) and Janice O'Leary (Fred); 13 grandchildren and six great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in November 1979; her parents; and sisters, Thelma Trisler and Ruth Neal.
