Betty Lou Wurster, 78, formerly of Springville, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, officiated by Pastor Sue Ellen Sherman. Family will greet friends from
10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Springville Cemetery.
Betty was born Sept. 23, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Leona (Rieniets) Brandt. She married Earl Wurster on Dec. 26, 1964, in Marion, Iowa. He passed away in 1995. Betty graduated from Waterloo West High School. She received her bachelor's degree from State Teachers College of Iowa (UNI) and received her master's degree from the University of Iowa. Betty taught English in several school districts, including Davenport, Anamosa, Cedar Rapids and Springville. She also was employed by Kirkwood Community College, teaching at the Anamosa State Penitentiary, from which she retired.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Eric Engels) Wurster of Janesville, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
