Betty A. Walker, 86, of Stoughton, Wis., formerly of Iowa City, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by three generations of family on her late husband's birthday, Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017.
She was born March 20, 1931, in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Bernice (Rowland) Groff. She married Orville E. Walker on Nov. 12, 1949, in Iowa City and together farmed in Johnson County for many years.
Betty enjoyed quilting, reading, cooking, sewing and music. She donated many of her quilts to the International Child Foundation.
Betty loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also was a talented crafter and showed her love for friends and family by gifting her work.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Bee (Regis) Johanns, Julie (Gary) Hutchinson, Lora (Joe) King and Sara (Phil) Woody; three sons, Bruce (Jackie) Walker, Jim (Dorian) Walker and David (Josie) Walker; daughter-in-law, Mona Walker; her brother, Jim Groff; 24 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Matt Walker; sister, Diane Harrington, who Betty and Orville lovingly raised; grandson, Patrick; an infant grandson; and an infant great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday, Nov. 6, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, with visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday. Private burial will be at a later date.
