Betty Timmons
BETTY MARIE TIMMONS Cedar Rapids Betty passed away at Northbrook Manor Care on June 2, 2017. Services: Private. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. She was born Betty Marie Thompson, the eldest daughter of De Witt and Lucille Thompson, on Aug. 10, 1923, in Hopkinton, Iowa. She graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1941 and attended Lenox College, where she met her husband Robert (Bob) Timmons. Betty married Bob in Lake City, Fla., in 1944, where he was stationed in the U.S. Naval Air Corp. Betty was an excellent singer, winning many vocal competitions during her school years, and loved singing in the church. Betty was Bob's biggest cheerleader, always by his side, being the silent partner through his military service, teaching, coaching and administrative years in education, to purchasing a grocery store in Olin, Iowa. Betty loved playing bingo, cooking and baking for her family and friends. Betty loved to be around family as much as possible and was always there to help in any way. In addition to being a devoted wife, Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who gave unselfishly. Memories of Betty will be treasured always. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Betty is survived by her son, Bob Timmons; daughter, Jo Ann Daubenmier (Dick); eight grandchildren, Rob (Kara), Brahn (Tracy), Brown (Val), Kyle, Leigh (Tim), Andy (Carolyn), David and Sally; and eight great-grandchildren, Brendan, Shelby, Peyton, Madison, Grace, Olivia, Harper and Connor. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Jean Imoehl and Peggy Orcutt; along with many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, De Witt and Lucille Thompson; husband, Robert (Bob) Timmons; son, Rick Timmons; and daughter-in-law, Coleen Lyness Timmons. A big thank-you to Northbrook Manor Care, its staff, and Mercy Hospice for the loving care provided to our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, Mercy Hospice and Northbrook Manor Care. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.cedarmemorial.com.
