Betty Wallace Stuckenschneider, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died June 24, 2017, peacefully at home. A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Pastor Aaron Telecky of Maranatha Bible Church officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Memories. Burial is at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Carol) and Jon of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Dillon, Madison and Morgan; sister, Peggy Wicke (Bob) of Mesa, Ariz.; very close friends, Myte Dahl and Clarence Borck of Cedar Rapids; special nephew, Mike Wicke of California; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband, Donald Stuckenschneider; and brother, George Wallace.
Betty was born Sept. 27, 1932, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Zaruba) Wallace. She graduated from Mount Mercy Academy, Cedar Rapids Business College, attended Mount Mercy University and Kirkwood Community College. She always felt higher education was a privilege – she was her happiest in a college classroom. She was employed at Cryovac Co. and Cedar Rapids Community Schools. Betty was a member of the American Rose Society, Linn County Rose Society and American Orchid Society (roses were her passion). She was the editor of the Linn County Rose Society's newsletter and wrote countless articles for American Rose Society and American Orchid Society. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital for many years caring for patients as if they were her immediate family.
Betty was a caring, very generous person, making friends easily, and touched many lives by opening her heart and rose gardens to all. Another of her passions was technology – her computers, iPhone and cameras brought her much joy. Many of her photographs graced Facebook. Her love for her family and friends were endless … she gave all she had. She will be missed.
The family would like to thank Right at Home and St. Luke's Hospice for their help.
Memorials may be directed to Maranatha Bible Church in memory of Betty.
