Betty Ruth Helmick
Marion
Betty Ruth Helmick passed from this earth to her heavenly reward on Sept. 1, 2022. Born Oct. 6, 1942, in Davis County, Iowa, to Homer and Mary Ruth Eakins. She married Jewell Helmick on April 7, 1963. He passed away in August 2006.
Betty grew up on a farm as the oldest girl in a family of eight children (six boys) and started early as a caregiver. Betty worked at Collins in the ’60s and then again in the ’80s. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom and then had the joy of caring for her two grandchildren during their infant and pre-school years. Her family was her greatest treasure and she loved them unconditionally. She enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and gardening.
Left to carry on her memory are children, Wes (Bonnie) Helmick and Julie (Jeff) Dvorak; grandchildren, Andrea (Charlie) Koller and Mitchell Dvorak; precious great-granddaughter, Greta Paige Koller; siblings, Bill (Janice) Eakins, Jack (Red) Eakins, David (Cindy) Eakins and Garry (Sheryl) Eakins; sister-in-law, MaryLou Helmick; brother-in-law, Kyle (Sue) Helmick; and many nieces and nephews
Betty courageously lived with dementia and continued smiling even as the disease caused her body to fail. She was blessed with many special caregivers, but her favorites were Shannon, Pauline and Judy. We will always be grateful for their loving care.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Jewell; her parents; and siblings, Wayne Ashcraft, Dick Eakins, and Alice Enlow.
A memorial service will be held on Oct. 3, 2022, 1 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. until service time. Inurnment: private, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
