Betty R. Weston, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, peacefully passed away on Jan. 10, 2023. Her family will hold a private celebration of Betty’s life at a later date.
Betty was born on June 15, 1928, in Anderson, Ind., the daughter of Gorman and Mabel (Hardacre) Sylvester. She had a younger brother, Bob. She married Donald G. Weston on June 27, 1948.
Betty worked in her family’s business, East Side Jersey Dairy in Anderson, and at a bank in the San Diego area when Don was in the U.S. Marine Corps. After the birth of their children, Betty worked at a pre-school and later kept the books for Don’s business, Cedar Valley Equipment Corp. But Betty spent the bulk of her time as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She selflessly put her family first, as a marvelous cook, cheerleader, homemaker, pet owner and counselor, attending all manner of music, athletic and other family events. She was a devout Christian and had a large extended family with whom she stayed in close touch. Betty was also a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, rarely missing a football or basketball game.
Betty is survived by her son, Mike (Julia) of Cedar Rapids and grandchildren, Ben (Leah) of West Des Moines, Tyler (Adisa) of Thornton, Colo., Zachary (Allie Penna) of Oceanside, Calif., Katie and Mary, both of Coralville; and son, Greg of Cedar Rapids and grandchildren, Derek of Iowa City, Sarah Cooksley (Tyler) of Cedar Rapids, Jared of Iowa City and Hannah Bousek (Robert) of Iowa City. She also had six great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; and brother, Bob.
Donations in memory of Betty should be directed to The Salvation Army or a favorite charity.
