Betty L. (Soukup) Perkins, 89, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Chapel of Memories at Cedar Memorial Park. Visitation will be before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park. Luncheon to follow graveside service at the family center.
Betty was born July 31, 1925, in Center Point, Iowa, to Louis and Bessie (Valenta) Soukup. She graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. She married John Perkins on Sept. 28, 1962, in Dallas, Texas. They first lived in Nassau, Bahamas, until 1965, then moved back to Dallas until 1972. They later lived in Knoxville, Iowa, from 1972 to 2006. She lived out the rest of her years in Davenport.
Betty worked at Collins Radio as a secretary for many years. She also worked alongside her husband at his CPA practice in Knoxville.
She enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques and Depression glass, and watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball and the Chicago Cubs. But her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren play their many sports.
She is survived by her daughter, Barb (Neil) Nichol of Davenport; her son, Jim (Angela) Perkins of Arlington Heights, Ill.; sister, Evelyn (Cheryl) Rutledge of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters, Hailey (Ryan) Delf, Andrea Perkins and Caitlin Nichol; grandson, Joseph Perkins; and two nephews, David Rutledge and Chuck (Kris) Rutledge.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 35 years, John, who passed in 1998.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville.
