Betty Arlene Neiderhiser, 91, of Clarence, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Clarence Senior Living. A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Thursday, Feb. 23, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be in Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely.
Betty was born Dec. 20, 1925, in rural Jackson County, the daughter of Davis and Hazel (Watters) Saunders. She graduated from Maqouketa High School. She was married to Arland Rowan, Melvin Twigg and Robert Neiderhiser. She worked for Blunck Adamson Insurance Agency in Grand Mound for 17 years. Betty loved to dance and enjoyed her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her son, Joseph Rowan of Iowa City; her daughter, Karen (LeeRoy) Proesch of Wheatland; four grandchildren, Heath Proesch, Heather (Eric) Gross, LeeAnn (Dan) Chase and Laurie (Bill) Edwards; five great-grandchildren, Heath Jr., Paten, Dakota, Logan and Gillian; a great-great-granddaughter; and her sister, Carol Benson of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a grandson, Rex Rowan; and two brothers, Earl (Eva) Saunders and Merlin "Toby" Saunders.
