Betty Lou McVay, formerly of Clarence, passed away on March 20, 2023, at Summit Pointe Senior Living in Marion, Iowa. She was 96. Services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stanwood with Rev. Dr. Andrew Watkins officiating. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.
Betty Lou was born on Nov. 3, 1926, in Monticello, Iowa, to Elwill and Augusta Husmann Null. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1946 and married Luverne McVay on June 25, 1947. He
died in October 1990.
For 33 years Betty Lou was employed by the Clarence-Lowden School District in the hot lunch program, serving as Food Service Director for the last 23 years. Betty Lou was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stanwood for 65 years where she served on many committees, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. She enjoyed cooking, golfing, dancing, playing cards, and traveling.
Betty Lou is survived by and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Linda (Tom) Pieper of Warrenville, Ill., and Kay (Greg) Forest of Marion; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and special friend Paul Behrends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Luverne; sisters Phyllis Parrott, DeWitt, and Vera Schoon, Monticello.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stanwood, Iowa.
