Betty Lou McGee, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where there also will be military rites. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include a son, Bill, of Hiawatha; two brothers, Mike (Bev) of Cedar Rapids and Carl (Sandy) Van Dee of Ozark, Mo.; and three sisters, Florence (Bob) Moellers and Helen Mendenhall, all of Cedar Rapids, and Sarah Martens of Shellsburg. She also is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Andrew, Edward and Donald Van Dee; and three sisters, Mary Brown, Ida Mahan and Grace Hotchkiss.
Betty was born on July 6, 1928, in Williamsburg, the daughter of A.J. and Margaret Holderness Van Dee. Betty was a secretary at Rockwell Collins for over 42 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Betty enjoyed walking, going to the casino, crocheting and traveling with her sisters. She was an avid baseball fan and never missed a Cedar Rapids Kernels baseball game.
Betty was a wonderful lady whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. A memorial fund has been established. Please leave a message or tribute to Betty's family on our web page, www.cedarmemorial.com, under obituaries.
