Betty L. Pohorsky, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 5, 2025, at Cottage Grove Place. Services: 11 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Family Life Center, Westminster Presbyterian Church by Rev. Roger Grandia. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Betty is survived by her children, Jane, Jean (Peter) Wiggins, John (Jennie), Joan (Karl) Doner, and Jim (Teri); grandchildren, Kristin (Isaac), Emma, Leigh (Kurt), Nicholas (Alexis), Charlie, and Matt; and great-grandchildren, Thea and Charlotte.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Pohorsky.
Betty was born on April 1, 1930, daughter of Joseph and Barbara Modracek Nejdl in Davenport. She married William Pohorsky on October 30, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. Betty was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed sewing in her free time, making everything from bridesmaid dresses to boat covers.
Betty was always wise and kind and had a subtle sense of humor. She was rooted in faith and provided stability, acceptance and grounding to so many people she cared for. Betty was known as “mom to all” and was very loved by her family.
She was truly one of a kind. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren strive to be more like her … but she set the bar pretty high.
Memorials may be directed to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in Cedar Rapids.
