Betty M. Klein, 88, of Marengo, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial: Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
Betty is survived by her children, Mary Gerard of Marengo, Sherry Dietze and husband Ron of Marengo and Jere Klein and wife Barbara of Florida; seven grandchildren, Kim, Jody, Danny, Amber, Christina, Raymond and Samantha; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dick DeVore of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on June 4, 1986; and two grandchildren, Chad and Tracy.
Betty Mae DeVore was born May 26, 1926, in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of George and Mary Balvin DeVore. She graduated from Chelsea High School with the class of 1944 and married Lester L. Klein on Feb. 14, 1945, in Marengo.
Besides being a wife, mother and homemaker, Betty worked at the nursing home, hospital and the Amana Bakery.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Marengo, and the Marengo Legion Auxiliary.
Betty enjoyed cooking and canning. She liked to do crossword puzzles and listen to audiotaped books.
She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, and looked forward to spending time with them.
