Mary Elizabeth Junge, known to family and friends as "Betty," was born Aug. 24, 1927, to Charles Mills and Mary Agnes (Kelly) Sizer in Washington, D.C. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic grade school and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Washington, D.C., in 1945. She worked at Catholic University of America before her marriage.
Betty met her husband, Irvin, at the Knights of Columbus USO during World War II and they married on March 10, 1947, at St. Joseph's on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. They moved to Iowa and lived on a farm near Keystone until 1984 when they built a house and moved to town.
Betty was employed at Benton Mutual Insurance Association for 30 years, serving as manager her last years. She then kept an insurance agency in her home for a few years after retiring.
Betty enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, bowling, golf, reading and playing cards and the Iowa countryside. But most of all she loved being around her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Merkel-Bockholt Auxiliary Unit 107, Keystone Turnerettes and Twelve Belles Pot Luck.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Irvin Junge of Keystone; three children, Jerry (Karen Stark) Junge of Keystone, Terry (Lonnie) Carney of Atkins and Marty (Kris Jurgens) Junge of Van Horne; six grandchildren, Kristie (Dave) Swick of Urbandale, Jeff (Tisha Schaub) Junge and Tracey Carney, all of Cedar Rapids, Nate (Tami Wilhelmi) Junge of Atkins, Noah (Meghann Staebell) Junge of Jesup and Megan Junge of Cedar Rapids; four stepgrandchildren, Tina Hill, David, Jamey and Mike Carney and their families; 10 great-grandchildren, Gracie, Anna and Turner Swick, Trey Mills Junge, Tyson Breedlove, Laura, Jacob and Cael Junge and Mason and Claire Junge; her nephews, Lynn Peyton, Greg and Tim Bryner; her niece, Aileen Fuller; and her sisters-in-law, Ruth Junge and Lois Schlotterbeck of Keystone and Marilyn (Russell) Rieder of Newhall.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Margaret Rees, Dorothy Peyton and Georgette Bryner; her brother, Joseph Mills Sizer; her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Lloyd) Petersen; and her brothers-in-law, Curtis Junge and Delmar Schlotterbeck.
