Betty Jean Meis, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids, due to complications of congestive heart failure. Private family funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Betty is survived by her children, Tom Meis, Cindy Petersen, Kris Smith, Julie McNeal, Jim Meis and Sue Hippert; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and Bindi, her loyal dog.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; sons, Steve, Pat and Tim; and a brother, Jerry Myers.
Betty was born in Nebraska City, Neb., on Feb. 19, 1931, to Hazel and Leroy Myers. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1936, and she graduated from McKinley High School in 1949. She worked at Collins Radio in graphic arts, retiring in 1993.
Betty married Tom Meis in 1959, they were married 49 years before his death in 2008. She was dedicated to her family and proud of each of them. She was a kind and loving person, who will be greatly missed by her large family.
Betty was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or All Saints Catholic School.
