Betty Jean Kies, 71, of Vinton, died Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at her home from a sudden illness. Service:
11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Blessed Hope Church, 1509 South M Ave., Vinton, by the Pastor Matt Hantz. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Vinton Legion Hall. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Betty is survived by her sons, Andrew (Valerie) Hardy of North Dakota and Shawn (Mindy) Kies of Vinton; daughters, Vicky Kies of Marion, Rhonda Kies of Vinton, Kim Kies of Cedar Rapids and Lora Kies of Van Horne; nine grandchildren, Jordynne, Dylan, Teeana, Kyleigh, Charity, Patience, Faith, Keegan and Layla; sister, Linda (Larry) Griffe; brothers, Don (Julie) Perry and John (Kim) Perry; her dogs, Buddy and Maggie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Betty was born Aug. 1, 1949, in Waterloo, the daughter of Floyd and Dorothy Stephens Perry. She graduated from Orange High School. She married Willard Kies on Oct. 3, 1969, and they later divorced. Betty was a home day care provider for more than 40 years. She was a member of Blessed Hope Church in Vinton.
Betty enjoyed babysitting, going out to eat, watching "Walker Texas Ranger" and "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit." She loved spending time with her grandchildren and playing with her dogs. Betty will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
