Betty Jane Opperman, 93, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion. The Rev. Andrew Noble will officiate. Family will greet friends and family one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Guttenberg City Cemetery in Guttenberg, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion, Iowa, is assisting the family.
Betty was born on Feb. 2, 1929, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Louise Marie (Duwe) Biederman. She graduated from Guttenberg High School and went on to receive her Business Certificate from Wartburg College. On Dec. 26, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Eugene Harold Opperman, in Guttenberg. Together they raised their family in South Holland, Ill., for 40-plus years. Betty and Eugene moved to Iowa in 2005. They enjoyed traveling together, visiting all 50 of the United States as well as Europe. She was a very intelligent, faith driven woman. Betty enjoyed puzzles, reading and volunteering for the church.
Betty is survived by her son, David Opperman of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Opperman; son, Roger Opperman; and sister, Corrine Borman.
