Betty Jane Bedell, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time, Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Brosh Chapel. Inurnment in Friends Cemetery, Whittier.
Betty was born May 16, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Ben and Elizabeth (Blazek) Bedell. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Class of 1962 and later attended State College of Iowa (UNI). She began working at Jack’s A & W as a car hop and cook. Betty later worked for over 38 years at Rockwell Collins, until retiring in 2001. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, nature, wildlife and, most of all, spending time with her family. Betty helped her family show Shetland and Hackney ponies as a child and never lost her interest in attending horse and pony shows. She also worked as a dedicated volunteer on the Class of 1962 reunions and was so pleased to attend.
Betty is survived by her siblings, Arlene Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Donna Norris of Greenwood, Ind., and Mary Malmer of Eldridge; her nieces and nephews, Bill (Jen) Lewis, Bob (Deanna) Lewis, Deb (Warren) Bolsinger, Andrew Norris, Betsy (Jeff) Day, Jill (Tony Cedillo) Malmer, Matt Malmer and Brent Giannetto; great-nieces and -nephews, Nicole (Zach), Brandon, Rylee, Lyle, Gideon and Elliott; great-great-niece, Willa; great-great-nephews, Liam and Lincoln; as well as Raymond Vondracek extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Catherine Giannetto; her brothers-in-law, Richard Lewis, James Norris and Clark Malmer; and her companion Raymond Vondracek.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or Exceptional Opportunities, 119 South Jones St., Algona, IA 50511, in her name.
