Betty J. Laton, 95, of Texas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday June 9, 2021, in Fort Worth, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. July 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at Christ
United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, on July
17, 2021, at 3 p.m.
Survivors include her children, Pamela Cocklin of Peoria, Ariz., Barbara Fletcher of Fort Worth, Texas, and Eugene (Tami) Laton of Marion, Iowa; her grandchildren, Rebecca Effertz, Rachel (Aaron) Balentine, Elizabeth Hillhouse, Jessica, Philip, Maddox and Alistar Cocklin, and Daniel Laton; along with nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Vernon.
Betty was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Marshall County, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Grace (Everist) Gustafson. She married Vernon W. Laton on Sept. 8, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked as a phone operator for Northwestern Bell from 1967-1980. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Friendship Club, Keystone Sunday School, Senior Bowling and Rebecca Circle prior to her move to Fort Worth, Texas, in 2013. There, she joined Barb at Christ United Methodist Church, Friendship Sunday School, United Methodist Women Ruth Circle and Bible Study Fellowship.
