Betty R. Bethurum, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Delhi, passed away Dec. 15, 2016, at Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home, with visitation one hour before the service, with David Duball officiating. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Betty was born Dec. 24, 1929, in rural Linn County, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Warner) Arnold. She graduated from West Delaware High School. Betty married Jack E. Bethurum in Manchester on June 4, 1950. He passed away in 1994.
She was a happy homemaker and enjoyed baby-sitting in her home for over 100 children. Betty was a member of Delhi United Methodist Church. She was known as "Grams" to many. Betty was a very good listener. Betty loved to work on photo and scrapbooks for her family. She would do anything you asked of her. Betty was an avid collector of owls.
She is survived by her children, Curtis Bethurum of Robins and Cathy (John) Merck of Atkins; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelcey) Morrison of Spirit Lake and Ryan (Alissa) Morrison of Johnston, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Etta Morrison of Spirit Lake; stepgrandsons, Michael Merck of Cedar Rapids and Christopher Merck of Marion; siblings, Doreen Renfrow of Bloomington, Minn., Dorrance (Jean) Arnold of Oelwein and Dean (Elsie) Arnold of Lansing, Mich.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Northbrook Manor staff for their loving care of "Betty Boop."
