Bettie Jean Sikes Hanson, 87, of Marion, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at St Luke's Hospice Center, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, by Vicki Standley. Bettie's family will greet guests from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home before the service.
Bettie is survived by her children, James H. Roberts (Pat) of Virginia Beach, Va., Norman W. Roberts (Katie) of Indianapolis and Susan Hanson Hamilton (Rod) of Marion; grandchildren, Bryan Roberts, Aimee Roberts Widmeyer, Megan Wright, Aaron Roberts and Hannah Beauchamp; and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Josh, Jason, Quin, Dalton, Dagny, Owen, Adrian, Taylor, Soren and Signy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Bettie was born July 19, 1926, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Hubert B. Sikes and Lorraine Ferguson Sikes. She graduated from Polytech High School in Little Rock, Ark. In 1946, she married Fred Barker Roberts. On July 28, 1956, she was married to Harry Lewis "Jim" Hanson. They made their home in Marion and she was employed by WR Grace, Cryovac Division.
Bettie was a distinguished Toastmaster and served as district governor of Toastmasters International. She also was involved in American Business Women's Association and Junior Achievement. She was a member of Marion First United Methodist Church.
