Beryl Jean (Brecht) Ollinger, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital peacefully, surrounded by her sons. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday from 12 to 3 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Beryl was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Norway, the daughter of Rhinehardt and Dorothy Brecht. She was raised on the family farm with her siblings, Marlyn and Donald. Beryl met her husband, Keith while playing basketball and they were high school sweethearts. Married 60 years, they raised four sons, and actively enjoyed their boys’ school activities and musicals. As home builders, Beryl played a major role in the planning and interior layout of each home. She had an excellent eye for interior design which she enjoyed implementing in their home as well.
Through the years Beryl enjoyed many day and weekend road trips with Keith and numerous friends. She loved her family and always enjoyed spending time during the holidays with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beryl lead a simple life and was fond of her daily luncheon activities with her friends.
Beryl is survived by her four sons, David (Peg) of Mesa, Ariz., Scott (Bonnie) of Marion, Gary (Audrey) of Cedar Rapids and Brian (Karessa) of Robins; six grandchildren, Tomye Lauren, Amanda, Kortlan, Brandt, Elison and Brena Laine; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Marlyn (Elaine) Brecht; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, her parents and two brothers, Donald and Ronald.
