Bertling, Milton S.
Milton S. Bertling, 81, of 107 E. Ninth St., Monticello, formerly of Cascade, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Jones County Regional Hospital in Anamosa. Services for Milton will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until services Monday, Aug. 6, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade.
Milton was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Cascade, Iowa, son of “William and Cora (Johnson) Bertling. He received his education in the Cascade area schools. On May 1, 1981, he was united in marriage to Doloris Mae Rieniets. Milton was known as Mr. Fix-it. He was an avid Saint Louis Cardinal fan. He loved feeding his birds and helping Doloris in the garden and with wood working projects. He was a lifetime hunter and fisherman.
He loved his whole family and he was Dad to all of them.
He is survived by his wife, Doloris Bertling of Monticello; six children, Ted (Suki) Lockwood of Lorton, Va., William (Theresa) Lockwood of Waukesha, Wis., Nancy (Anthony) Lockwood of Henderson, Nev., Cheri Tholen of Monticello, Allen (Kim) Tholen of Marshville, N.C., and Tami Fisher of Warren, Mich.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rosie Kean of Roselle, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Miller; and six brothers, Ed, Ralph, Clarence, John “Bill”, Herbert and Robert Bertling.
A Milton S. Bertling memorial fund has been established.
