Berta Joyce Heither Hunt Mullin was born in Conesville, Iowa, to Vernon and Adda Lucretia Heither on Nov. 30, 1925. Berta oversaw the construction and managed the Wildwood Pool Apartments in Cedar Rapids for 13 years. She was also an attendance secretary at Kennedy High School for 19 years.
Berta had been retired for many years enjoying taking care of her flowers, activities with her "Owls" (Older, Wiser, Livelier Souls) friends, playing cards with her nephew Ron and his wife Judy, and having Monday morning coffee with her Hy-Vee group and Monday afternoon coffee with friends at Donutland. She was quick witted right up until the end of her life … always had a smart remark that made those around her chuckle. Hers was a life well lived, full of love and heartbreaks, laughter and sorrows, orneriness of younger days and peacefulness of days more seasoned.
Berta is survived by her daughter, Jaye Kennedy and son-in-law Spencer; grandchildren, Alex Trickel (Matthew), Mackinze Kennedy (Dan Nagawiecki), Rob Gholson and Todd Gholson; great-grandchildren, Auri and Sylvia Trickel, as well a niece and several nephews.
Berta was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Marvin Hunt and Gerald Mullin; daughter, Sally Jerich; brothers, Max Heither, LeMoine Heither and his wife, Gerry, LeRoy Heither and his wife, Iola, and brother, Lyle Goldsberry and his wife Vivian. She was also preceded in death by Charlie the cat, whom she loved dearly.
Berta's family would like to thank the staff at Keystone Cedars, Mercy Medical Center and the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House for their caring kindness.
Memorials can be made in her memory to Waypoint Services in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
