Bernie G. Daly, 65, died peacefully at home Sunday, May 7, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday at the Newman Center with Father Steven Witt officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bernie Daly Memorial Fund.
Bernie was born June 5, 1951, in Burlington, the son of William Michael and Eva (Crnic) Daly. He received his bachelor's degree at Western Illinois University and his master's in educational administration at Northern Illinois University. On March 16, 1974, Bernie married Jeanette Worden in Galesburg.
Bernie was a school principal at St. Malachy's School in Geneseo, Ill., and later was principal at Seaton Catholic Schools in Moline, Ill. In 1988, the family moved to Iowa City, where Bernie was the administrator at Windmille Pointe. While living in Geneseo, Bernie was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus. He also had been a caregiver for his mother-in-law, Laurane Worden.
He was an avid Hawkeye and sports fan, and loved watching the PGA and the Senior Tour.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Jeanette and their three children, John T. (Samantha) Daly of North Liberty, Bernie (Kari) Daly of Iowa City and Mary (Varun) Tandon of San Diego; grandchildren, Isaac, Liam and Lily; his siblings, Betty (Ronald) Bohls of Sun City West, Ariz., Chuck Daly of Burlington, Patrick (Jessica) Daly of Martinez, Ga., and Teresa (Mark) Panko of Goodyear, Ariz.; and sister and brother-in-law, Mickey Daly of Burlington and Jim Strebin of Danville, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mike; and sister, Rosie Strebin.
