Bernice E. Steele, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services in Cedar Rapids. Per Bernice's wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Inurnment will be at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include 2 sons, John (Maria) Coverdale of Cedar Rapids and James (Barbara) Coverdale of Marion; 2 stepchildren, Craig (Dee) Steele of Neb. and Kathleen (Kelly) Corum of Ariz.; and 5 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and a brother, Arnold Anderson.
Bernice was born Dec. 15, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Christine (Nelson) Anderson in Holstein. She graduated from the University of Iowa School of Nursing in 1939. Bernice worked for various doctors offices in Waterloo for thirty-three years. She married John Coverdale, Jr. in October of 1940. He died in 1977. She then married Edward Steele in July of 1980. He died in 1990.
Bernice was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice in Bernice's memory.
