Bernardini, Bartolomeo 'Bart'
Bartolomeo “Bart” Bernardini, 93, died peacefully Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at his home in Coralville. A Celebration of his Life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. Bart was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Fanano, Italy, the son of Medardo and Candida Bernardini. He migrated to the United States when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1939. Serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Machinists Mate 2nd Class, Bart later attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and New York University.
He married Mary Mihalchik at St. Patrick's Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 20, 1953. Bart was employed by the Brooklyn Naval Yard until 1964; later working as a salesman and regional manager for VR / Wesson Co. for 21 years.
He was an avid golfer and master gardener - but above all - adored his family.
Bart is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and John Pieper of Coralville; and their son, Robert Bernardini of Wooster, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arnold and Dominique; and sisters, Argia, Zitia, Dolores, Pelligrina and Viola.
